Iran says it will not reopen the Strait of Hormuz until the United States meets seven conditions contained in a June interim agreement between both countries.
Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, speaker of Iran’s parliament and the country’s top negotiator, outlined the conditions on Sunday.
Qalibaf said Iran had presented a proposal at the recently concluded 81st United Nations General Assembly for the waterway to reopen and normal maritime traffic to resume within seven days if the conditions were met.
He said the US responded to the proposal last week through Qatari intermediaries.“The position of the Islamic Republic of Iran is completely clear and firm, and the Strait of Hormuz will not be opened until our seven conditions, based on the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, are met,” Iranian state media quoted Qalibaf as saying.
He added that Washington must understand that “the period of dragging out the diplomatic process and dictating one-sided demands is over”
