The Kebbi State Government has ordered the closure of all state-owned tertiary institutions, citing escalating insecurity across the region. The only exception is the College of Nursing Sciences and Midwifery in Birnin Kebbi, which will continue to operate.

The directive was announced on Saturday by the state Commissioner for Higher Education, Alhaji Issa Tunga. According to Tunga, recent security incidents across the state prompted the decision to temporarily shut down institutions including the State Polytechnic, Dakingari; Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero; College of Health Sciences and Technology, Jega; and the College of Education, Argungu.

He urged management teams of the affected institutions to ensure full compliance with the closure order and called on students and staff to remain calm. “The new resumption date will be communicated in due course,” Tunga stated.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, confirmed the statement, emphasizing that further updates would follow as the situation develops.

The move comes amid growing concerns over safety in the state, with recent reports highlighting security gaps that have left communities vulnerable.

Students and staff of the affected institutions are advised to monitor official channels for updates regarding reopening.
