The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured Nigerians of a credible and glitch-free governorship election in Anambra State, scheduled for Saturday. The Commission emphasized that the issues that affected previous polls, including BVAS failures and delays, have been addressed.

INEC’s Supervising National Commissioner, Ken Ukeagu, spoke on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, highlighting that all logistics and personnel are in place across the state. He confirmed that materials have been deployed to all Registration Area Centres (RACs) and that polling units are ready to welcome voters.

“Our goal is to conduct fair, inclusive, and transparent elections for Anambra residents,” Ukeagu said. “There will be no technical glitches, and all resources will be in place ahead of the polls.”

He further explained that the Commission has prepared for all possible outcomes, including a potential runoff if no candidate secures the required majority. “As mandated by law, we are ready to conduct a runoff if necessary,” he noted.

Anambra, often described as one of the most politically dynamic states in the Southeast, has seen intense campaigning in recent weeks. Security agencies and election observers have been finalizing measures to ensure the exercise is peaceful.

Ukeagu also confirmed that sensitive and non-sensitive election materials were moved to local government areas on Thursday and distributed to RACs, which are already operational. “Vehicles have been delivered, and polling units are set to receive voters. Everything is prepared for a smooth process tomorrow,” he added.

The Commission faces growing expectations from Nigerians to guarantee a free and fair election, particularly as this will be the first major poll overseen by INEC Chairman Amupitan since his October appointment.
