The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance as the winner of the November 8 Anambra governorship election, confirming a sweeping victory across all 21 local government areas.
The final figures released at the collation centre in Awka show that Soludo secured 422,664 votes. His closest opponent, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress, finished far behind with 99,445 votes, while the Young Progressives Party candidate, Paul Chukwuma, scored 37,753 votes.
INEC stated that 16 political parties participated in the exercise. Out of 2,788,864 registered voters in the state, 598,229 were accredited. A total of 595,298 ballots were cast, with 584,054 counted as valid and 11,244 rejected.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Edoba Omoregie, noted that some voting disruptions in parts of Anambra West, Anaocha, Awka South and Onitsha South resulted in the cancellation of 10,481 votes. He emphasised, however, that the cancellations did not impact the overall result or the margin of lead.
Omoregie confirmed that Soludo met all legal requirements and received the highest number of valid votes, declaring him duly elected for another term as governor.
