President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has once again reiterated his dedication to transforming Nigeria, despite facing significant criticism and opposition to his administration’s policies, including from some state governors.
During a one-day official visit to Enugu State on Saturday, Tinubu pledged to continue with the necessary reforms needed to address the country’s pressing issues.
While acknowledging the dissenting voices, the President remained steadfast, using a Yoruba proverb to illustrate his determination:
“The pig will get to the slaughter, but there will be a lot of noise. I’ll live with the noise,” Tinubu quipped.
The President emphasized the significance of tackling long-standing economic challenges, such as the removal of the fuel subsidy, a decision he termed painful but essential for securing a prosperous future for Nigeria’s unborn generations.
“You cannot spend the future of our generations in advance. Don’t bankrupt the nation before they are born,” he said.
Despite the ongoing negative commentary surrounding his administration, Tinubu expressed pride in Nigeria, encouraging citizens to adopt a similar sentiment.
“This house, Nigeria, we must build it—not just for our immediate needs, but for tomorrow. People may grumble, abuse me, but I asked for this job because I believe in myself. I gathered a very good team to build the nation,” he stated.
The President further urged Nigerians to work together in creating a country that everyone could be proud of.
“I won’t entertain negative comments about Nigeria. I’m proud of this country, and you should be too,” he added.
