Labour Party candidate in the 2023 governorship election in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has announced his intention to contest for the seat again in 2027, pledging to build on lessons from his previous campaign and remain active in opposition politics.
In an interview published on Sunday, Rhodes-Vivour criticised what he called the “extravagant spending” of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, citing alleged misuse of public funds.
“The biggest mistake in Lagos politics is the opposition going silent after elections. That will not happen this time,” he said.
The former candidate pointed to what he described as questionable financial practices, including the use of taxpayers’ money to cover personal legal bills, ₦200 million spent on unspecified projects, and ₦2 billion allegedly allocated for consultants and fans for public transport networks.
“In the face of widespread hardship, accountability and transparency are non-negotiable,” he stated.
Rhodes-Vivour highlighted efforts to strengthen his political movement through grassroots engagement, including health outreach programmes and micro-insurance plans.
“We’re staying in touch with Lagosians through initiatives like free medical care worth up to ₦6,000. We are doing our best to remain visible,” he added.
Rhodes-Vivour’s renewed bid signals a commitment to challenge the status quo in Lagos politics, with a focus on governance that prioritises fiscal responsibility and public welfare.
