Omosede Igbinedion, daughter of Esama of Benin, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, has been selected as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ovia Federal Constituency in the upcoming by-election in Edo State.

She secured the party’s ticket during the primaries held across the constituency’s 23 wards, earning a total of 5,819 votes. The primary was conducted using the direct voting system, with party members lining up behind their preferred aspirants.

Chairman of the primary election committee for Ovia, Barrister Lucky Ajokperiniovo, confirmed the process was peaceful, transparent, and largely uncontested, as other aspirants stepped down in support of Omosede’s candidacy.

In a similar fashion, Joseph Ikpea emerged victorious as the APC candidate for the Edo Central Senatorial District. He defeated his closest challenger, Mr. Glory Momodu, by a wide margin in an election described as smooth and orderly by the primary committee chairman, Stanley Uzoamaka.

APC’s Edo State Chairman, Emperor Jarret Tenebe, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the primaries and praised the committees for ensuring order and fairness. He emphasized that the party is determined to campaign aggressively to win the forthcoming by-elections, adding that the results will reaffirm APC’s strength in the state, following its claim of victory in the September 2024 governorship election.
