Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has expressed grief over the terrorist attack on Kasuwan Daji market in Borgu local government, which claimed at least 30 lives on Saturday, January 3, 2026.
The attackers also abducted an unknown number of residents, including women and children, and destroyed local livelihoods.
Through his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, Governor Bago described the incident as “cruel and nefarious” and extended condolences to the victims and their families, confirming that those affected came from different religious communities.
The governor emphasized the importance of resilience and noted that his administration is working with the federal government and security agencies to improve safety in the area. A joint security team is pursuing the perpetrators to rescue the kidnapped residents.
He prayed for the repose of the deceased, the safe return of the abducted, recovery for the injured, and the restoration of livelihoods.
