Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved the state’s Pensions Board, directing the Office of the Accountant-General to take over its responsibilities until a fresh board is put in place.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Friday in Port Harcourt by the state Head of Service, Dr. Inyingi Brown. Members of the disbanded board have been instructed to return all assets and documents in their possession to the board’s Director of Administration.
Although no reason was given for the governor’s decision, the statement assured that a new board would be constituted in due course to oversee pension matters in the state.
This marks Fubara’s first significant move since his reinstatement by President Bola Tinubu on September 18.
