Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has weighed in on the ongoing feud between the suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Amaechi revealed in an interview with DW Africa that the quarrel between the two politicians is driven by money-sharing disputes, questioning the public’s understanding of their conflict.

“The fight between the current governor of Rivers State and the FCT minister is about sharing money. If not, what is the quarrel?” Amaechi said.

He also critiqued the emergency rule imposed by President Bola Tinubu in Rivers, calling it unconstitutional.

Amaechi emphasized that democracy was being undermined, pointing out, “We are now denied democracy.

Rivers State is the only state in the country currently not enjoying democracy. They have imposed military rule on us.”

In the interview, Amaechi further criticized President Tinubu’s actions, suggesting that the move to suspend Fubara was politically motivated to eliminate governors who might oppose him in the upcoming 2027 elections.

He urged Rivers residents to resist the emergency rule, labeling it a violation of their democratic rights.

The dispute between Fubara and Wike escalated amid recent local government elections, with various political factions accusing the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) of procedural irregularities.

This ultimately led to the suspension of key political figures, including Fubara and the state’s House of Assembly.
