The Nigerian government is aiming to process visas for foreigners within 48 hours, a move intended to enhance ease of entry into the country.

Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, unveiled the initiative during a training session for 162 officers in Abuja on Friday.

“We want a scenario where it becomes easier for people to come into Nigeria. We want to be able to open our borders for economic participation, tourism, and short-stay visas,” Tunji-Ojo said.

He added that the new e-visa solution would allow applicants to receive their visas within 24 to 48 hours, ensuring a smooth process without compromising national security.

The initiative is part of the Federal Government’s broader effort to streamline visa issuance while maintaining strict security measures. “We don’t want people to wait forever to get visas to Nigeria,” the Minister emphasized.

Kemi Nana-Nandap, Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), also highlighted the importance of thorough vetting and proper documentation management in this process, ensuring transparency and efficiency.

This move is part of Nigeria’s strategy to make the country more accessible for international visitors and boost its economic and tourism sectors.
