The Federal Government has initiated rescue efforts for group of Nigerian workers stranded in the Bambari region of the Central African Republic (CAR), following the circulation of a disturbing video on social media.
The video, which gained widespread attention online, showed the Nigerians appealing for help after reportedly being abandoned by their employers in Bambari, a remote area located approximately 850 kilometers from Bangui, the capital city of CAR.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the Nigerian Embassy in Bangui has reached the stranded individuals and is actively coordinating with local authorities to ensure their safety and eventual return to Nigeria.
According to the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, a vehicle has already been dispatched to transport the affected citizens to Bangui under military escort. Their passports have also been recovered, and plans are underway to provide them with temporary shelter and welfare support while arrangements for their repatriation are finalized.
The government expressed serious concern for the well-being of the affected workers and reiterated its commitment to the protection of Nigerian citizens abroad. It also used the opportunity to caution Nigerians seeking employment overseas to properly verify job offers and ensure that all necessary travel documentation is complete.
Additionally, the ministry advised Nigerian nationals to register with embassies in their host countries to enable swift assistance in cases of emergency.
Efforts to bring the stranded workers back home are ongoing, with updates expected in the coming days as officials work to finalize their safe return.
