Enugu, Kebbi, and Niger States have been identified as the most expensive places to live in Nigeria, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
The agency’s April Consumer Price Index (CPI) report, released on Thursday, revealed that these states recorded the highest headline inflation rates on a year-on-year basis.
“In April 2025, the All Items Inflation rate on a year-on-year basis was highest in Enugu (35.98 percent), Kebbi (35.13 percent), and Niger (34.85 percent),” the NBS stated. These figures reflect a significant rise in the core inflation rate for the three states during the period under review.
In contrast, Ondo, Cross River, and Kwara States saw the lowest increases in headline inflation, with rates of 13.42 percent, 17.11 percent, and 17.28 percent respectively.
This development comes as Nigeria’s average headline inflation dropped to 23.7 percent in April, signaling some relief for consumers nationwide. However, residents of Enugu, Kebbi, and Niger continue to bear the brunt of rising prices.
Last year, in May 2024, NBS had named Kogi, Bauchi, and Oyo as the most expensive states, marking a shift in the inflation landscape across the country.
