The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned Subomi and Wahab, the sons of billionaire businessman Razaq Okoya, for questioning in connection with an alleged abuse of the naira.
The two brothers gained widespread attention recently after a viral video surfaced showing them engaging in the act of “abusing” the naira.
A police officer seen in the video has been identified and taken into custody by the Nigeria Police Force.
Meanwhile, social media has been abuzz with criticism, particularly due to the delayed action taken against the Okoya brothers.
Activist lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, expressed his concerns on Facebook on Saturday, stating:
“The Okoya sons are above the law. A country of two laws — one for the poor and the other for the rich.”
As of Saturday, it was confirmed that the EFCC has scheduled the Okoya brothers to appear for questioning at the agency’s Lagos office located at 15A Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, on Monday, January 13, 2025.
The invitation letter was signed by Michael Wetkas, the acting director of the Lagos Directorate of the EFCC.
