Devakumar Edwin, Vice President of Oil & Gas at Dangote Industries Limited, has been named Person of the Year by Daily Asset Newspapers. The award recognises his role in growing Nigeria’s oil and gas sector and supporting the Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals.

The award ceremony, held in Abuja, brought together government officials, industry leaders, and media executives. Dr. Cletus Akwaya, Publisher of Daily Asset, said Edwin has been key to the refinery’s success, helping improve domestic refining capacity, increase petroleum product availability, and support Nigeria’s economic growth.

“Engr. Edwin’s work in engaging stakeholders, advocating for the industry, and communicating the refinery’s importance has been outstanding,” Akwaya said. He added that the refinery is now a major driver of industrial growth, job creation, and national development.

Edwin was represented at the event by Alhaji Abatcha Bishara, Dangote Group’s Senior General Manager of External Relations. The Dangote refinery, the largest single-train refinery in the world, has helped Nigeria reduce dependence on imported fuel and strengthen energy security.

Other award recipients included government and industry leaders, such as the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, and several state governors.

The Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas was named Best Government Agency of the Year.

Earlier this week, President Bola Tinubu highlighted that the Dangote refinery has significantly improved the supply of petroleum products across Nigeria.

The Dangote Group said the recognition motivates them to continue supporting energy security, expanding refining capacity, and contributing to Nigeria’s economic growth, while also appreciating the media for promoting responsible reporting.
