American singer and Grammy Award winner Ciara has promised to use her global platform to promote the beauty, culture, and creativity of Lagos to the world.
The music star joined Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Nigerian Exchange on Friday to ring the closing gong, marking the official opening of Lagos Fashion Week 2025. The event, now in its 15th year, runs from October 29 to November 2 under the theme “In Full Bloom.”
Ciara, who arrived in Lagos on Thursday for the four-day celebration, expressed her admiration for the city’s energy and progress. She said her visit inspired her to showcase Lagos’ growth and creativity through her music and influence.
“This is a special moment for me because my heart always feels at home in Lagos,” she said. “From the moment I landed, I’ve seen how much the city has evolved. The fashion, the people, and the energy are just incredible, and I’m honoured to be part of this story.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the Lagos Fashion Week as a reflection of the city’s innovative and entrepreneurial spirit. He noted that the creative sector—especially fashion—plays a major role in driving tourism, attracting investment, and putting Lagos on the global map.
“Our government is committed to supporting people who are building ecosystems that help local brands reach the global market,” he said. “Africa is the next growth frontier, and Lagos will continue to lead that journey.”
He also revealed that the partnership between the Lagos State Government and the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) would create more opportunities for fashion entrepreneurs to scale up and gain international recognition.
Later on X (formerly Twitter), Sanwo-Olu shared moments from a brunch held with designers and artists at Lagos House, Marina, noting that Ciara’s participation highlighted the growing global interest in Lagos as a creative hub.
The Lagos Fashion Week 2025 features leading designers, rising talents, and international guests, all celebrating the city’s influence in shaping the future of African fashion.
