Former President Muhammadu Buhari and Professor Abubakar Sulaiman, Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), have expressed deep sorrow over the death of Professor Nuhu Omeiza Yaqub, a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja.
In a statement issued by Buhari’s media aide, Garba Shehu, the former president described Professor Yaqub as a “towering intellectual giant” who left a lasting impact on Nigeria’s intellectual landscape through his significant contributions to teaching and research.
Buhari, who had known the late scholar for many years, praised Yaqub for his passion, knowledge, and invaluable insights on public policy.
He prayed for his soul to be granted Aljannah.
Similarly, Professor Sulaiman also extended his condolences in a personal statement, describing the news of Yaqub’s death as both “shocking and devastating.”
The NILDS Director General highlighted the academic’s pivotal role in advancing education and research in Nigeria. He lauded Yaqub’s dedication and his lasting influence on students and policymakers.
Sulaiman further noted that the loss of such an accomplished scholar was particularly poignant as his expertise would have been especially beneficial at this time.
Sulaiman also conveyed his heartfelt sympathies to Yaqub’s family, the government of Kogi State, and the wider academic community, emphasizing the irreplaceable loss of a man who had deeply impacted education and intellectual development in Nigeria.
