Three people have been killed and several houses set ablaze following an attack by suspected bandits on Pissa village in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The Niger State Police Command confirmed the incident, saying the attackers invaded the community on Saturday morning, causing casualties and destruction.
Police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said security agencies received reports of the attack and that military personnel responded to confront the assailants. He added that details of the military operation were still being gathered.
The attack comes days after authorities dismissed reports of a bandit invasion in Minna, the state capital, which had sparked panic among students and parents.
At the time, the police assured residents that no attack had occurred in any school and reiterated their commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
Security agencies are continuing efforts to restore calm in the affected area and investigate the latest attack.
