Ondo State citizens in diaspora are worried by the present political logjam in Ondo state occasioned by the raging feud between Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and his embattled Deputy, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the All Progressives Congress United Kingdom(APC UK) Ondo State Caucus has called for ceasefire, urging President Bola Tinubu and APC National Leaders to Intervene in the interest of peace and development in the state.
The APC UK Ondo Caucus in a statement issued after its emergency meeting and signed by its Chairman, Chief Dare Adeyeye and others, said without peace in the Sunshine state, the citizenry would not benefit largely from the dividends of democracy as expected.
It urged all critical stake holders in the affairs of Ondo state to align with the dictates of the Constitution and end the present political crisis for posterity sake.
The APC members in the diaspora hailed Governor Akeredolu for his laudable achievements since he assumed office in 2016,but pleaded that there should be somebody in charge of governance constitutionally in his absence due to health challenges.
They noted that the present constitutional crisis may cause break down of law and order as revealed through intelligent reports gathered by Ondo State Police Command that some political elements were bent on disrupting the peace of the state for their selfish ends.
The APC loyalists decried absolute lack of communication between the Governor and his Deputy which consequently prompted the inability of the Deputy Governor to perform Constitutional duties on behalf of the Governor,for the good governance of the State.
According to the statement” The issue of impeachment of the Deputy Governor by the House of Assembly should be jettisoned, but rather critical stakeholders including the Federal government led by President Tinubu and other APC National/Ondo State leaders should proffer immediate solution to the political acrimony in the state.
” There is a need to follow rule of law by all stakeholders as enshrined in Nigeria’s constitution to bring absolute peace back to the state,while APC leaders at National and State levels should check the excesses of those in government in the absence of the Governor to be disciplined”.
The Ondo APC Caucus in the UK used the forum to re-echo their fervent prayers for Governor Akeredolu’s total recovery from ill-health, stressing that the desired progress in the state was retarded with his long absence in the state.
