Chieftains of the All Progressives Congress will on Wednesday gather at the party’s national secretariat to attend a meeting of its statutory organ, the National Executive Committee (NEC).
Checks revealed that the party’s National Working Committee issued a notice last Friday for the meetings of the national caucus and NEC.
It read in part: “Notice is hereby given for the meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Party. Note that the National Executive Committee (NEC) is one of the organs of the Party under Article 11 of the party’s constitution.”
It was gathered that both meetings of the statutory organs have not been convened since August 3, 2023 when the duo of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Senator Ajibola Basiru emerged as national chairman and national secretary respectively of the ruling party.
Some chieftains of the party have severally expressed strong reservations about the failure of the APC National Working Committee led by Ganduje to convene meetings of the national caucus and NEC in clear breach of the provisions of the party’s constitution which states that “The National Executive Committee shall meet every quarter and or at any time decided by the National Chairman or at the request made in writing by at least two-thirds of the members of the NEC provided that not less than 14 days’ notice is given for the meeting to be summoned.”
