Prince Adebayo Adeleke, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has condemned the violent events that led to the killing of at least six people during a local government dispute on Monday.
Speaking to Ismaeel Uthman, Adeleke described the crisis as a response to the APC’s legal victory regarding the reinstatement of elected local government officials.
“The violence was targeted at our members to prevent the enforcement of the Appeal Court’s judgment,” Adeleke said. “The PDP, known for violence, unleashed terror on our chairmen and councillors.
The Chairman of Irewole Local Government Area, Remi Abass, was killed right in front of the council secretariat.”
Adeleke further claimed that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was attempting to undermine the ruling by conducting what he called a “sham election.” “That election is illegal… Our councillors and chairmen remain reinstated and are already in office.”
Despite the violent challenges, he remains optimistic about the APC’s prospects in the 2026 elections. “We have no problem in 2026,” he stated, stressing that the PDP’s actions reflect a loss of connection with the people.
