A faction of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the National President, Emeka Rollas, after storming a meeting he convened on Thursday in Umuahia.

The situation almost turned violent, but was brought under control by the intervention of the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 9 Command.

The protesting members, who claimed the gathering was illegal, have been calling for the recognition of David Onyebuchi Amalaha, who was elected as chairman of the AGN Abia State chapter on May 20, 2023.

They argued that Emeka Rollas has failed to acknowledge Amalaha’s leadership and has been engaged in a series of legal disputes in the state over the alleged imposition of leadership.

Some prominent members of the aggrieved faction, including Chika Okezie, Egwuatu Daniel, and Nathaniel Nwoko, voiced their concerns about the disruption.

They accused the National President of exacerbating the division within the AGN by imposing five interim state chairmen since 2023, among other allegations.

The incident was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer of Zone 9 Command, SP Iheanetu Bruno Chukwudera, who stated that the quick response of the police prevented the situation from escalating.

He also clarified that neither Emeka Rollas nor the protesting leaders were arrested but were instead invited by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 9, to provide statements regarding the incident.

“There was actually chaos caused by some aggrieved members. Nobody was arrested by the Police. They have a factional leadership problem. The key actors in the chaos were invited by the AIG and made to write statements based on what happened during the meeting,” he said.
