The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates for the 2027 general elections, ending months of uncertainty over party nominations across the country.

Among the prominent figures missing from the list is former President Goodluck Jonathan, whose candidacy had been championed by the Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His exclusion ends speculation about his participation in the presidential race.

Also absent are Senator Ned Nwoko (Delta North), former Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel, former Gombe State Governor Danjuma Goje, and Senator Garba Maidoki of Kebbi South.

The final list comes after the All Progressives Congress (APC) reviewed several petitions arising from its primary elections. While the party reinstated some lawmakers following recommendations by its Primary Election Appeal Committee, several influential politicians failed to regain their tickets.

In Delta State, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa emerged as the APC’s candidate for Delta North Senatorial District, confirming Nwoko’s earlier defeat in the party’s primary election.

In Gombe State, Goje also missed out on the APC ticket for Gombe Central, with retired Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohammed Ahmed securing the nomination. On the PDP side, former Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo emerged as the party’s candidate for Gombe North, while Senator Anthony Siyako was picked for Gombe South.

The list also excludes two serving federal lawmakers from Bauchi State. Senator Shehu Buba will not seek re-election after leaving the APC for the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), where he secured the party’s governorship ticket. Meanwhile, Mansur Soro had earlier announced that he would not contest for another term in the House of Representatives or seek a Senate seat.

Following the release of the final candidates’ list, political parties are expected to shift focus from internal nomination battles to preparations for the 2027 general elections.
