The number of people confirmed dead following the powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela last month has increased to more than 4,300, according to authorities.
National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez announced on Saturday that the death toll had risen to 4,333, up from the 4,118 reported a day earlier. He did not provide an updated figure for those still missing.
The twin earthquakes, measuring magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, hit Caracas and the coastal state of La Guaira on June 24, causing widespread destruction. Numerous residential buildings collapsed, leaving thousands trapped beneath the rubble and displacing many families.
Relief efforts are continuing across the affected areas, with temporary shelters established in stadiums, public squares and along sidewalks to accommodate people who lost their homes. Rodriguez said more than 19,000 displaced residents are currently staying in these camps.
Emergency responders, alongside local and international volunteers, remain on the ground providing medical assistance, distributing food and supporting ongoing recovery operations.
Search and rescue activities continue in several communities as authorities assess the full scale of the disaster.
