Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Christopher Musa, has dismissed the alleged coup attempt involving some military officers, describing those behind it as poorly organised and lacking real support.
He said the group dragged junior officers into what he called a misguided and avoidable mission, insisting the plan was so weak that even civilians could have resisted and shut it down without military intervention.
Musa made the remarks during a television interview, where he also expressed sympathy for lower-ranked soldiers now facing trial, saying they were misled by senior officers.
He stressed that the ongoing court martial is being handled fairly and transparently, with all accused personnel given the opportunity to defend themselves as investigations continue.
The minister also defended the stability of the armed forces under President Bola Tinubu, saying there was no justification for attempts to disrupt democratic rule.
He further warned against military interference in politics, arguing that democracy remains the best system of governance for the country.
