Security was significantly reinforced around the White House on Saturday evening after reports of possible gunfire near the presidential complex triggered a multi-agency response.

Law enforcement officers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the United States Secret Service, and local police units moved quickly to secure areas around Pennsylvania Avenue and 17th Street NW following alerts of shots fired in the vicinity.

The incident prompted immediate lockdown-style precautions, with road access restricted and security personnel deployed in large numbers around the White House perimeter. Members of the press inside the complex were also directed to move indoors for safety as reports of loud bangs emerged nearby.

Eyewitness accounts from journalists suggested confusion during the incident, with some describing sounds resembling gunfire close to the North Lawn. However, authorities have not confirmed the exact source of the noises or whether they originated from within the White House grounds.

At the time of the security alert, U.S. President Donald Trump was inside the White House carrying out official engagements, including diplomatic discussions related to Iran.

Officials said investigations were ongoing, with the Secret Service confirming it was working to verify reports in coordination with other agencies. FBI Director Kash Patel also stated that federal agents were on the scene supporting the response.

Preliminary reports from U.S. media outlets suggested that two people may have been injured in a confrontation involving security personnel near the White House perimeter, though this has not been officially confirmed.

Authorities have urged calm as investigations continue to determine the cause of the incident and whether there is any ongoing threat to the area.
