Five members of the House of Representatives have announced their defection from their respective political parties, citing internal crises and uncertainty within their former platforms.
Among them is Bello El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, announced the defections during plenary on Thursday.
According to the Speaker, two lawmakers from Kaduna State, Umar Ajilo and Suleiman Richifa, also left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the ADC.
In a related development, Kano lawmaker Kamilu Ado defected from the ADC to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Similarly, Joshua Obika, who represents the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency of the Federal Capital Territory, resigned from the APC and joined the NDC.
The lawmakers attributed their decisions to lingering internal disputes and instability within their former political parties.
The defections come amid ongoing political realignments ahead of future electoral activities in the country.
