The Dangote Group has dismissed claims circulating on social media that its founder, Aliko Dangote, fell out with Tony Elumelu, chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA).
The clarification followed a viral post on X alleging that Dangote had sought financial assistance from business associates during the construction of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals and was allegedly disappointed by Elumelu.
In a statement signed by Anthony Chiejina, the group’s chief branding and communications officer, the company described the post as false, malicious and baseless, noting that neither Dangote nor the organisation made the statements being attributed to them.
The company stressed that the refinery project was not funded through personal borrowing from friends, explaining that its major projects are financed through structured and formal channels.
It also rejected any suggestion of a breakdown in the relationship between Dangote and Elumelu, stating that both men maintain a cordial and longstanding relationship.
Dangote Group further raised concerns over what it called the growing misuse of Dangote’s identity in misleading digital content and AI-generated advertisements, warning that such actions could cause reputational damage and amount to fraud.
The group warned individuals and platforms responsible for spreading the claims to stop immediately, adding that it would take legal steps where necessary to protect its reputation and leadership.
It reiterated its commitment to integrity while continuing its drive for industrialisation and economic development across Africa.
