Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s potential bid for a second term remains uncertain, as former Rivers State Governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has chosen not to speak publicly on the matter.
Umar Sani, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), told Symfoni TV that Wike has made it clear he does not want to be asked about Fubara’s political future. Sani explained that Wike’s decision is meant to prevent early disagreements and maintain party unity.
“Leaders often avoid discussing re-election or succession too early because it can create confusion among supporters,” Sani said. He noted that premature debates about potential candidates can lead to misunderstandings and tension within the party, weakening cohesion.
Sani added that political figures generally wait until primaries or official party events before commenting on possible contenders. “Wike recently told me that nobody should ask him whether Fubara is going for a second term. This is to avoid premature debates that could scatter the party. For now, the people of Rivers State are watching closely, hoping these political discussions do not affect the state’s development,” he said.
