The African Democratic Congress has rolled out a nationwide online membership registration platform, as part of its preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The party announced that the new digital portal allows Nigerians to register for free, while existing members are required to update and revalidate their records. According to the ADC, the exercise is aimed at complying with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 and guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
In a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC explained that only members whose details are fully captured and verified on the new digital register will be eligible to participate in the party’s primaries, either as voters or aspirants.
The party noted that the introduction of the online platform is meant to simplify the registration process, remove barriers to participation, and ensure wider inclusion, including Nigerians in the diaspora. It added that the digital option will run alongside ongoing manual registration across the country.
The move comes amid changes to the 2027 election timetable by INEC. After concerns were raised over the initial dates coinciding with Ramadan, the National Assembly amended the Electoral Act to shorten the mandatory election notice period. This adjustment allowed INEC to shift the presidential and National Assembly elections to January 16, 2027, and the governorship and state assembly polls to February 6, 2027.
Under the revised schedule, political parties are expected to submit comprehensive digital membership registers by April 2, 2026. Some political stakeholders have argued that the requirement could disadvantage opposition parties.
While reaffirming its objections to aspects of the Electoral Act and the revised timetable, the ADC said it remains committed to building a modern, inclusive, and citizen-focused political movement. The party also encouraged support groups and associations to take advantage of the new portal and complete their registrations within the stipulated period.
