Ghana’s President John Mahama has ordered the immediate recall of the country’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Ahmed, following allegations of electoral misconduct.

Ahmed, who was also a candidate in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries for the Ayawaso East Constituency, is accused of involvement in vote-buying during the party’s internal elections.

In a statement from the Ghanaian Presidency in Accra, officials said the recall was necessary to avoid any conflict of interest and to uphold the ethical standards expected of public officers. The statement stressed that keeping Ahmed in his diplomatic role amid the allegations could undermine public confidence in government institutions.

The NDC has already started investigating claims of vote-buying involving multiple aspirants during the primaries. While the party’s internal review continues, the Presidency acted independently to ensure transparency and preserve the integrity of public office.

The directive took immediate effect, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs has been instructed to implement the recall and handle all related administrative and diplomatic procedures.
