U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to sue comedian Trevor Noah after Noah made a joke at the Grammy Awards linking Trump to Jeffrey Epstein’s private island.

The U.S. president said this jn a post on his social media platform Truth Social.

The dispute began during the 68th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday 1st February 2026, where Noah hosted for the sixth and final time.

After Billie Eilish won Song of the Year, Noah said, “That’s a Grammy that every artist wants — almost as much as Trump wants Greenland. Which makes sense because, since Epstein’s gone, he needs a new island to hang out with Bill Clinton.”

Trump responded on Truth Social, calling Noah’s comment “false and defamatory” and denying ever visiting Epstein’s island.

“I can’t speak for Bill, but I have never been to Epstein Island, nor anywhere close, and until tonight’s false and defamatory statement, have never been accused of being there, not even by the Fake News Media,” he wrote.

In the post that inspired widespread coverage, Trump also criticised the show itself, saying, “The Grammy Awards are the WORST, virtually unwatchable!” and attacking Noah as “a total loser” who should “get his facts straight… and get them straight fast.”

He warned, “It looks like I’ll be sending my lawyers to sue this poor, pathetic, talentless, dope of an M.C., and suing him for plenty$.”

Noah’s joke drew audible gasps and laughter at the show, and the controversy quickly spread online.

It underscores the increasing overlap between entertainment and politics in the United States ahead of a contentious election year.
