Manchester City have accepted a deal in principle to sign Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi this month for £20 million.

City initiated talks with the 25-year-old England centre-back following injuries to defenders Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias.

Guehi, who is out of contract in the summer, had previously been linked with several top European clubs and was close to joining Liverpool last summer.

BBC Sport reported earlier this month that City were exploring a move for Guehi, with negotiations accelerating over the past 24 hours.

According to BBC Sport on Friday, Guehi is expected to join the Premier League champions on a long-term contract later this month. Personal terms have yet to be formally agreed, but are not anticipated to cause issues.

The potential signing comes after City secured Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo in the current transfer window for £62.5 million.

The Guehi development coincides with Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner’s announcement that he will leave the club at the end of the season. Glasner insisted that Guehi’s potential move had “zero impact” on his decision, saying, “because my decision has already been taken months ago.”
