Former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has been released on bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following hours of interrogation at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

The EFCC had summoned Malami on November 24, asking him to appear before its Special Duty Committee-3. After attending the interview on Friday, the former AGF was granted administrative bail.

Speaking publicly after his release, Malami described the meeting as “successful,” and thanked Allah for his release. He also dismissed the allegations against him as “fabricated,” while pledging full cooperation with the EFCC in the ongoing inquiry. “I remain ready to assist investigators and will continue to update the public as the truth unfolds,” he said.

The EFCC has not disclosed the specific allegations prompting Malami’s summons. Media reports, however, suggest the inquiry may revisit controversial decisions during his tenure, including matters related to asset recoveries, disposal of seized assets, and high-value contract approvals under the previous administration.

Under the terms of his bail, Malami is expected to return for further sessions with the EFCC as the investigation continues.
