Former Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, has shared how President Bola Tinubu played a defining role in shaping his and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s political careers over two decades ago.

Speaking during the launch of the Omi Eko project in Lagos on Saturday, Fashola said Tinubu entrusted them with key responsibilities when he served as Lagos governor, helping them grow into the leaders they are today.

“I must thank the governor who, like me, was a young man being mentored by another governor—now the president—about twenty-something years ago,” Fashola said. “He trusted us, and that trust became the foundation of our journey.”

Fashola praised Sanwo-Olu’s administration for its continued efforts to transform Lagos through innovative transport solutions, particularly on the waterways. He highlighted the success of projects like E-One and Omi Eko, noting the city’s progress toward efficient water transport.

“Lagos has been busy on the waters—from the E-One to Omi Eko—and it’s exciting to see what comes next. Kudos to Governor Sanwo-Olu and his team,” he added, commending the partnership with the French Development Agency for supporting the state’s growth.
