Russia has imposed sanctions on a group of British officials and analysts, accusing them of driving policies and campaigns aimed at undermining Moscow.

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced the measures on Friday, describing London’s stance as openly hostile. It alleged that the targeted individuals were linked to British research institutes and government offices involved in shaping “anti-Russia” strategies.

Moscow claimed the UK was clinging to the idea that it could inflict lasting damage on Russia by supporting Ukraine, warning that such actions would only worsen Britain’s political and economic challenges.

Those named on the sanctions list include Anna Deibel-Jung, Deputy Director at the UK Office of Trade Sanctions Implementation; James Byrne, Co-founder and CEO of the Open Source Centre; and David Michael Doogan, a Scottish National Party lawmaker. Also listed are Kinga Redlowska, Head of the Centre for Finance and Security; Max Petrokofsky, Head of Sectoral Sanctions at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office; Gonsalo Saiz Erasquin, Research Fellow at the Centre for Finance and Security; and Emma Elizabeth Reynolds, Secretary for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

The Kremlin also extended the sanctions to several representatives of the UK Treasury’s Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation.

Russia warned that Britain’s attempts to isolate and discredit it, particularly in the context of the war in Ukraine, would continue to draw firm retaliation.
