Vice-President Kashim Shettima will head Nigeria’s delegation to the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) taking place in New York from September 22 to 28, 2025.

According to Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, Shettima will join world leaders at the opening ceremony on Monday, which also marks the UN’s 80th anniversary.

The Vice President is expected to participate in the high-level general debates beginning Tuesday, September 23, and deliver Nigeria’s national statement on Wednesday, September 24. He will also represent the country at a special climate summit convened by the UN Secretary-General on the same day, where Nigeria will present its updated commitments under the Paris Agreement.

In addition, Shettima will attend a roundtable on adequate and affordable housing hosted by the President of Kenya, alongside a series of bilateral meetings with global partners.

After the UNGA engagements, the Vice President is scheduled to travel to Frankfurt, Germany, for discussions with officials of Deutsche Bank before returning home.

The 80th UN General Assembly brings together heads of state and government from around the world to address pressing global challenges, ranging from climate change to sustainable development.
