The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has intensified preparations for the local government council elections taking place today, August 30, 2025.

Yesterday, the commission began the sorting and distribution of sensitive election materials across all local government areas, with security personnel ensuring safe transit. Some political party representatives accompanied the process to observe the handling of materials.

At the RSIEC headquarters, there was a steady flow of ad-hoc staff verifying their names, while election monitors, observers, and journalists conducted accreditation exercises. The commission restricted access to its premises, maintaining a strong security presence both inside and around the office.

With polling set to begin today, security agencies remain on high alert to ensure a smooth and credible election process across Rivers State.
