The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has cautioned Nigerians to beware of scammers posing as agents for the sale of 753 housing units recently handed over to the Federal Government by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The estate, which was forfeited by former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele, was officially transferred to the ministry in May 2025. At the time, Minister of Housing, Ahmed Dangiwa, announced that the government planned to dispose of the properties through an open and transparent process in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
However, in a statement issued in Abuja by the ministry’s spokesperson, Badamasi Haiba, the government clarified that it has not authorized any individual or company to manage or sell the units. The ministry urged citizens to disregard any unofficial offers and wait for official announcements on the sale procedure.
The warning comes amid reports of fraudsters attempting to exploit public interest in the estate, which is expected to be a major test case for the government’s housing reform and asset recovery policies.
