Security operatives in Ogun State have arrested two Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials and a politician after they were allegedly found with a large sum of money ahead of Saturday’s by-election.

The suspects were picked up at a hotel in Iperu-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area. In a viral video, the INEC staff — a man and a woman — were seen sitting on the ground as security agents interrogated them.

Investigators claim the officials had earlier received huge cash payments from political party figures, believed to be from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to facilitate vote-buying during the election.

The politician arrested with them was also accused of being part of the plan to distribute money to voters.

This incident adds to growing reports of electoral misconduct across states where by-elections are being held.
