President Bola Tinubu has appointed Muhammad Babangida, son of former military ruler Ibrahim Babangida, as chairman of the newly restructured Bank of Agriculture.

At 53, Babangida brings academic experience from the European University in Montreux, Switzerland, where he earned degrees in Business Administration and Public Relations. He also completed a Corporate Governance Executive Program at Harvard Business School in 2002.

The announcement came in a statement from the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, alongside several other appointments across key federal agencies.

Among them, Lydia Musa from Kaduna State will chair the Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority, while Kano’s Jamilu Aliyu has been selected to lead the National Educational Research and Development Council. Another Kano native, Yahuza Inuwa, has been named chairman of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria.

Sanusi Musa (SAN), also from Kano, will head the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution. In Sokoto, Prof. Al-Mustapha Aliyu has been picked as Director-General of the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa.

Additional appointments include Sanusi Rikiji (Zamfara State) as Director-General of the Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations, Tomi Somefun (Oyo State) as Managing Director of the National Hydro-Electric Power Areas Development Commission, and Dr. Abdulmumini Aminu-Zaria (Kaduna State) as Executive Director of the Nigerian Integrated Water Resources Management Commission.

These appointments are part of the president’s latest push to reposition strategic public institutions under new leadership.
