The Government of Taiwan has expressed admiration for President Bola Tinubu’s recent state visit to Saint Lucia, where he was awarded the title of Knight Commander of the Order of Saint Lucia.

In a statement from Taiwan’s Representative to Nigeria, Andy Liu, the honour was seen as a clear sign of Nigeria’s growing presence on the global stage. Liu commended Tinubu’s diplomatic efforts in building bridges between Africa and the Caribbean, adding that the visit showcased Nigeria’s expanding international reach under his leadership.

Liu pointed out that Taiwan has long maintained strong ties with Saint Lucia and other Caribbean nations like St Kitts and Nevis, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and Haiti. He said Tinubu’s outreach aligns with Taiwan’s own diplomatic interests in the region.

He also highlighted Taiwan’s ongoing support in areas such as healthcare, agriculture, youth and women empowerment, trade, and sustainable development within the Caribbean. Liu said the visit could open up new opportunities for cooperation between Nigeria and the region.

Liu further revealed that Taiwan has supported several development projects in Saint Lucia, some of which may have been part of Tinubu’s tour. He expressed Taiwan’s readiness to partner with Nigeria by sharing its technological knowledge and development strategies.

He urged the Nigerian government to consider forming deeper and mutually beneficial relations with Taiwan, similar to those it enjoys with Saint Lucia and other Caribbean nations.
