Suspended Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has hit back at allegations that she violated a court order after posting a satirical apology video about her sexual harassment claims against Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
On April 27, 2025, Akpoti-Uduaghan shared a mock apology on her Facebook page, sarcastically expressing regret for rejecting Akpabio’s advances.
In response, Akpabio filed a fresh motion demanding the deletion of the video, claiming it violated a court directive prohibiting her from discussing the matter on social media.
However, Akpoti-Uduaghan rejected the accusation in a counter-affidavit filed on May 9, 2025, insisting her post was a political satire on patriarchal norms in the legislature. She said, “My Facebook post of April 27, 2025, styled ‘Satirical Apology Letter,’ neither mentions this action nor references any matter sub judice; it is a political satire on patriarchal norms in the legislature and is protected speech under Section 39(1) of the Constitution.”
The senator also pointed out that the motion was meant to harass and intimidate her for exercising her right to free expression, stating, “This motion is borne of malice and intended to harass, intimidate, and scandalise me for exercising my constitutionally guaranteed right to a fair hearing and to free expression.”
