The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has called for immediate action to address the country’s worsening security crisis, which has seen rising rates of crime, banditry, and the destruction of property.

Following a key meeting in Abuja, the governors demanded that security agencies intensify their efforts to combat the surge in violence, which has led to killings in states like Plateau and Benue.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, chairman of the NGF, expressed strong support for an innovative security initiative presented by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, which aims to enhance national and subnational capacities for early threat detection and coordinated response.

“Governors expressed support for the initiative’s objectives and underscored the importance of technology-driven solutions,” the communiqué stated.

The initiative, which includes the deployment of advanced technology for surveillance and crisis management, was welcomed by governors who noted its potential to strengthen public safety across Nigeria.

Speaking on the need for more localized solutions, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna argued, “I believe we have to work together, and we don’t need to blame each other,” emphasizing that state police would be a crucial step in addressing insecurity at the regional level. “I also believe security agencies in Nigeria should step up and do what is right,” he added.

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo further emphasized the need for collaboration between state governors and security agencies, saying, “The Forum has set up a subcommittee of NGF to work with the heads of security agencies for a collaborative approach for immediate solutions to the security of the country.”

The forum also discussed initiatives aimed at boosting the economy through land reforms and the revitalization of Nigeria’s electricity distribution sector.
