Relatives of the passengers who vanished aboard Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 gathered in Beijing on March 8, 2025, marking the 11th anniversary of the plane’s disappearance.
The Boeing 777, carrying 239 passengers, lost contact on March 8, 2014, while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.
Despite one of the largest search efforts in aviation history, the plane has never been found.
During the demonstration outside the Malaysian embassy, relatives expressed their frustration over a lack of communication regarding the renewed search efforts.
“It was promised that we would be informed immediately, but we can only find out about this kind of news online,” said Li Eryou, whose 29-year-old son was aboard the flight. “We all feel extremely angry and frustrated,” Li added.
Jiang Hui, who lost his mother in the tragedy, also expressed his anger, saying, “When will the search start? Where will it take place? What discoveries have been made? We need answers to end these 11 years of suffering.”
Despite the emotional pleas, the families remain in the dark regarding the details of the resumed search, which was announced last month by Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke. “I hope this search will bring an end to the 11 years of pain,” said Jiang.
The ongoing search has reignited the mystery of the plane’s disappearance, with theories ranging from pilot error to more speculative causes. “Everyone has been left trapped in pain. What exactly happened is still unknown,” said Cheng Liping, who lost her husband in the incident.
