Ekaete Akpabio, wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has filed two lawsuits against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over allegations of defamation and violation of fundamental human rights.
The legal battle arises after Akpoti-Uduaghan, a senator from Kogi Central, claimed that her issues in the Senate began when she refused to engage in a sexual relationship with the Senate President.
In the first lawsuit (Suit No: CV/814/25), Unoma Akpabio accused the senator of making false and damaging statements that caused emotional distress and fear for her family’s safety.
“The statements made against me are a violation of my dignity under the Constitution,” Akpabio stated in the suit. She is seeking ₦250 billion in compensation and a permanent injunction to prevent further defamatory remarks.
In a second defamation suit (Suit No: CV/816/25), Akpabio challenged Akpoti-Uduaghan’s accusation that Godswill Akpabio made sexual advances toward her. Describing the allegations as “false, malicious, and damaging,” Unoma Akpabio is demanding a public apology in two national newspapers, The Guardian and ThisDay, as well as ₦1 billion in damages. “The allegations have caused untold pain and emotional trauma to me and my family,” she emphasized.
The controversy between the two lawmakers began after Akpoti-Uduaghan noticed an unexplained change in her Senate seating position, which she protested during a plenary session.
This incident led to further tension, with Akpoti-Uduaghan filing a ₦100 billion defamation suit against Akpabio and his senior aide.
