Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed support for Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s decision to proceed with the local government elections despite warnings from security agencies and legal advisors.
The Nigeria Police Force had raised concerns about potential unrest, while the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, had cautioned the governor due to a court ruling reinstating APC-elected chairmen.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Atiku commended the governor’s determination, stating, “The local council election is the heartbeat of a democratic system, given that its outcome impacts closely on the lives of the citizens.” He also urged security agencies and polling officials to execute their duties with responsibility.
Despite these warnings, Governor Adeleke cast his vote at Unit 9, Ward 2, in Ede North Local Government Area at 8 a.m. on the day of the election. The exercise continues as residents of Osun head to the polls.
