At least 85 people have died following a plane crash at Muan International Airport in South Korea.
The Jeju Air flight, which was en route from Bangkok, Thailand, had 181 people on board, including 175 passengers and six crew members. The aircraft skidded off the runway and collided with a wall during its attempt to land.
The fire service reported that rescue efforts were ongoing, with two survivors located so far. Emergency teams focused on extracting individuals trapped in the tail section of the plane.
The crash occurred at around 09:00 local time (00:00 GMT), and footage circulating online shows the plane skidding off the runway before bursting into flames, sending a large plume of black smoke into the sky.
Among the fatalities, 62 people, including 37 women and 25 men, have been confirmed dead, while 173 of the passengers were South Korean nationals and two were Thai.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with reports suggesting that bird strikes could have contributed to the incident.
Jeju Air, a major low-cost airline founded in 2005, has yet to experience a fatal accident until this crash. South Korea, known for its strong aviation safety record, has now seen its first deadly accident involving Jeju Air.
Rescue operations continue at the crash site, with more than 80 firefighters and over 30 fire trucks dispatched to assist.
