The Northern Majority Alliance (NOMAL) has reaffirmed its unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, rejecting claims that the North is dissatisfied with his leadership.

In a statement issued after a meeting of representatives from the 19 Northern states, the group, led by Coordinator Ibrahim Bunu, expressed confidence that the president’s policies and performance over the past two years have strengthened his relationship with the region.

According to NOMAL, the concerns initially raised by non-Hausa-Fulani communities in the North—who expressed discontent over the Muslim-Muslim ticket during the 2023 elections—have largely dissipated due to the administration’s progress.

“Reports from both remote villages and urban centers confirm overwhelming support for the president’s re-election bid,” the group stated.

NOMAL’s statement directly addressed allegations that the North had been excluded from the president’s governance, calling them “false” and part of a broader attempt to sow division. The alliance emphasized that these criticisms are intended to distract from the administration’s achievements.

“The success of the Muslim-Muslim ticket is proof that the president’s leadership transcends religion and ethnicity,” Bunu noted, highlighting that many Northern ethnic groups have long faced neglect and marginalization.

NOMAL expressed hope that future political combinations—whether Muslim-Muslim or even a Christian-Christian ticket—could be considered if they benefit the nation as a whole.

NOMAL also called for the establishment of the North Central Development Commission, citing the need to address developmental inequalities across Northern Nigeria. “We urge the presidency to act swiftly to create this commission to ensure that no region is left behind,” the statement said.

The alliance also appealed to Northern governors to amplify their people’s voices, particularly in pushing for Tinubu’s re-election and ensuring the region’s collective interests are represented.
