A media aide to the Delta State Governor, Ossai Success, has offered N500,000 and an ambassadorial role to a young UBA employee who recently faced public criticism after addressing the bank’s chairman, Tony Elumelu, by his first name.

Ossai made the offer in a Facebook post on Saturday, saying he would also sponsor the woman’s trip to Asaba for the Delta Social Media Summit scheduled for August 27.

The package, according to him, includes flight tickets, five-star hotel accommodation, a guided tour of development projects in Delta State and VIP access to the summit.

He also offered her a brand ambassador position for the annual Delta Social Media Summit.

Explaining his decision, Ossai said the criticism directed at the woman had gone too far. He acknowledged that she made a mistake but argued that she should not continue to face harsh attacks online.

The controversy started after a video from UBA’s Graduate Management Accelerated Programme graduation ceremony went viral. In the video, the employee addressed Elumelu as “Tony” while asking him a question.

Elumelu corrected her and said he preferred to be addressed as “Mr Elumelu” or “TOE.”

The incident generated mixed reactions on social media. While some Nigerians supported Elumelu’s position on workplace respect, others said addressing senior colleagues by their first names is common in some corporate settings.

Ossai has urged the woman, or anyone who knows her, to contact him so she can share her experience and receive the support he has offered.
